Flat Belly, Check! Now What?

BODY SCULPTING Reno NVYou’ve done the work. You’ve undergone liposuction or abdominoplasty or other body contouring to get the flat stomach you have wanted. Now that summer is here; you get to fully enjoy the fruits of your labor. At the same time, you may be feeling over-protective of your new body. Here, we discuss a few simple tips that let you have that proverbial cake and eat it, too.

Drinking and Shrinking

Typically, we are told that we need to avoid alcoholic beverages to lose and maintain weight. There is nothing wrong with sidestepping happy hour, but you don’t necessarily have to, as long as you know your limits. A single drink, 5 ounces of wine or 1 ounces of harder liquor, has minimal effect on fat burning that occurs throughout the day, so a one-drink maximum is a good rule for the body-conscious.

Don’t Make Cardio a Vicious Cycle

There has long been a common school of thought that cardio, running or other high-throttle activities, melts fat. Not so fast. To rev up metabolism, fitness experts are now saying that strength training is the way to go. This is because muscle is a more active tissue than fat, so it uses more energy at rest. Strength training does not have to mean huge muscles or even back-breaking workouts. A few total-body strengthening workouts each week will get results. A single consultation with a trainer may be all it takes to develop a perfect plan for your preferences.

Know What to Eat

If only we knew exactly what to eat to maintain the perfect figure! The fact is, we are all different, and each has unique taste preferences. Throw in the occasional emotional eating, and you may quickly see yourself falling off the wagon of healthy eating. Don’t stress, just hop back on with a few goals in mind:

  • Limit sugar. Use Stevia or another alternative.
  • Limit carbs. Think white: white bread, rice, potatoes, chips, and tortillas. If bread is a staple, you’re not ready to do without, find low-carb options made with healthy whole grains, and limit bread to one meal a day.
  • Eat the fat! All fat is not bad fat. Adding avocados, coconut oil, olives, and nuts to snacks and meals provides the monounsaturated fats that help the body stay lean.

Body sculpting is a serious business that we perform to high standards. For surgical or non-surgical treatments, such as CoolSculpting, call our Reno office at (775) 826-4477.
