What is Laser Lipo?

Since July 2009, Dr. Phillip Dahan's new Laser Body Sculpting system has been available at Advanced Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, LTD. LIPOTHERME™ is a safe FDA approved 25 watt, 980 nm diode laser that was developed in France and has been used with great results around the world for many years. LIPOTHERME™ uses revolutionary technology to selectively melt (liquefy) and remove fat while significantly tightening your loose skin. In addition to removing your unwanted fat, LIPOTHERME'S thermal effect causes the skin to contract, resulting in tighter, firmer and smoother skin that further enhances your body shaping goals. Laser lipolysis and skin tightening using LIPOTHERME™ is more effective than most other laser lipolysis systems, ultrasonic or conventional liposuction as these other systems do not tighten skin as well.

How does Dr. Dahan's Laser Lipo Sculpting System work?

Dr. Dahan uses a gentle, minimally invasive laser technique which safely heats the tissues to therapeutic temperatures using tiny 3 millimeter incisions which do not require sutures (no stitches needed). Fat cells, which are highly receptive to thermal energy, are liquefied and removed permanently. Fine 3mm or smaller cannulas are used significantly reducing the risk of liposuction deformities or irregularities, bleeding, pain and other complications. Selective melting of fat and tightening of loose skin can be performed on the chin, neck, arms, chest, back, tummy, hips, flanks, buttocks, thighs, knees and calves. Laser Lipo Body Sculpting may also be used to correct or improve deformities resulting from previous liposuction procedures. It works well in patients with areas of minimal fat or significant fat deposits (not a treatment for obesity) and may help to improve areas of cellulite and stretch marks.

Where is Dr. Dahan's Laser Lipo Sculpting System performed?

Laser Lipo Sculpting is safely, conveniently and efficiently performed in the privacy of Dr. Dahan's surgery suite located in the same building as his office. The procedure is done using local tumescent anesthesia and oral sedation as a same day procedure (does not require an IV nor general anesthesia and there is no need to spend hours at a surgery center or hospital). Patients may have a light meal the morning of surgery and do not need to fast the night before. Some patients may prefer to combine Laser Lipo Sculpting with other surgical procedures or wish to perform multiple areas of Laser Lipo Sculpting in one procedure therefore requiring IV sedation or general anesthesia.

What is the recovery time after Dr. Dahan's Laser Lipo Sculpting System?

Patients experience minimal to no downtime, and most return to work, school or other activities the next day. There is minimal to no bleeding, bruising, swelling or discomfort (most patients use pain pills for only 1-3 days). Postoperative compression garment wear is only required for 2-3 weeks instead of the usual 6 weeks. Strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided for a few days after surgery.

What kind of results can I expect from Dr. Dahan's Laser Lipo Sculpting System?

Patients see immediate results due to the reduction of fat and the instantaneous skin contraction. Results will continue to improve over the next 4-6 months depending on your unique body chemistry. All patients report a decrease in fat in the targeted body areas. Patients tend to have tighter, firmer and smoother skin with almost no irregularities and no recurrence of fat in areas of laser lipolysis. Patients with irregularities from previous liposuction also see a significant improvement as do patients with areas of loose skin.

Am I a candidate for Dr. Dahan's Laser Lipo Sculpting System?

Any healthy adult female or male with areas of unwanted fat and/or loose skin that have not improved with diet and exercise are good candidates. Other good candidates include patients with deformities from previous liposuction; patients with cellulite or mild stretch marks; patients with areas of loose or moderately sagging skin (i.e. arms, knees, hips, etc.); patients with good muscle tone seeking sculpted abs; and patients who prefer not to have their procedure performed in a hospital or under general anesthesia (most of Dr. Dahan's Laser Lipo Sculpting patients don't even require an IV). Laser Lipo Sculpting is not recommended for obese patients until sufficient weight loss is achieved.
