Valentine’s Day may bring to mind romantic candle-lit dinners, cherubs, and those little candy hearts with sappy sayings on them. And, hopefully, Valentine’s Day also makes you think of kissing that special loved one – it is, after all, the perfect excuse! But what if you feel like your lips are a bit lacking? Here are some tips for getting the lip-look you want!
Do Your Lips Need Help?
There are a few simple things you can do at home to take care of your lips:
- Choose the right products. Avoid anything that might dry out your lips, such as products containing camphor. Try products containing cocoa butter, shea butter, or coconut oil instead. Aloe vera gel can also help to keep lips smooth and moisturized – you can buy this at the drug store or even get an aloe vera plant. Vitamin E capsules can work, too; just cut open a capsule and apply the gel inside to your lips.
- Exfoliate. You might exfoliate the skin on the rest of your body, but did you know that your lips could use some exfoliation, too? Gently rub them with a washcloth to get rid of any dead skin while boosting blood circulation.
- Hydrate. Drinking enough water is always good advice for your overall health and beauty, and it turns out it can help lips to stay beautiful, too. It keeps them looking moisturized and full.
- Protect them. Putting on sunscreen before you go outside is probably just automatic now, but don’t forget to protect your lips, too! They are just as susceptible to sun damage. Apply a lip balm that is especially made with ingredients to protect your lips from the sun.
If you aren’t seeing the results you’d like with these tips, there are other options available. Injectables such as JUVÉDERM®, for instance, can add volume to lips and can help to reduce those little lines around the mouth.
