Think ahead for recovery success!
Planning ahead will help to ensure that the time after your surgery will be comfortable and your recovery quick. Make sure to:
1. Ask for help ahead of time. You will need someone to drive you home after the procedure, and you may even want someone to stay with you overnight. If you have young children, it is especially important that you have help.
2. Prepare your home. Of course, sometimes it’s not possible to have someone there with you for every minute as you recover. You can still make things easier for your recovery period, though – you can make sure some meals and your favorite snacks are prepared ahead of time so that you don’t have to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. You might also want to make sure your favorite place on the sofa is ready, with the remote and a good book nearby.
3. Prepare yourself! Eat right and stay in shape right up until the day of the procedure; staying healthy can help your body to heal faster after surgery.
4. Follow your doctor’s instructions. Your doctor may have a list of medications that you shouldn’t be taking before surgery, such as ibuprofen, aspirin, and even some herbal medications and supplements. And, he or she will also probably have other instructions to follow, too, to prepare your body for surgery and recovery.
