There are probably dozens of plastic surgeons in your town, and picking one at random off of the internet probably isn’t the place to start. You can always try asking for referrals from friends and family members – this will not only give you an idea of who you could go to, but it will also help you learn who to stay away from!
And don’t stop after just getting their name. Ask your friend what they liked and didn’t like about this doctor to get the full picture. Something your friend liked about a particular doctor may be something you wouldn’t like at all.
When you choose a doctor, at your consultation appointment
1. Ask about their training, awards, and certifications. Being “board certified” means that he or she has undergone a rigorous certification process and has met strict standards.
2. Ask to see examples of their work (which may be available on their website).
3. Assess the doctor. Does he or she take the time to address all of your questions and concerns, or are they not really paying attention to you? Do they just seem like they want to get you out the door?
4. Assess the staff and the office as well. Does the office seem clean and comfortable? Does it seem like the staff doesn’t even notice you or care that you are there? Are they rude or friendly? The doctor’s staff and the state of the office can say a lot about the doctor.
