What is eyelid surgery?
Eyelid surgery (also called “blepharoplasty”) is done to reduce saggy and puffy skin in the eyelids and in the areas around the eyes. The surgeon may remove or reposition fat in the upper eyelids and remove excess skin and tighten muscles in the lower eyelids to reduce bags and wrinkles. The procedure can also help to correct the “hollow” space between the cheeks and the lower eyelids. Incisions made during blepharoplasty can be effectively hidden in the crease of the upper eyelid or the inside of the lower eyelid or below the lower eyelash so that there is no visible scarring.
Blepharoplasty is a very popular procedure with both men and women, and it is also very safe. It is also a quick procedure, and it only takes about 2 hours. Another benefit of eyelid surgery is that you get dramatic results with very little downtime needed for recovery. Any swelling and bruising will go down with the use of a cold compress. Your stitches will be removed in about a week, and although your eyes might be a bit swollen, you’ll see results right away.
Although eyelid surgery is very effective in making patients look younger, some patients opt to combine the procedure with other procedures. For example, you can have eyelid surgery done in combination with a facelift or a brow lift to address sagging skin and wrinkles on the upper face.
