Labiaplasty: A Unique Approach with Permanent Results

Labiaplasty Reno NVLabiaplasty is the procedure that many people refer to as getting a “designer vagina.” We don’t know about that, but we can say that this refining surgery may be one of the most personalized there is. The labiaplasty procedure is not the same as vaginal rejuvenation. This technique focuses on the external area in which excess tissue can be both unsightly and uncomfortable.

What Labiaplasty Does

In the labiaplasty procedure, excess labial skin (usually from the inner lips, the labia minora) is trimmed down to correct “overhang.” The tissue of the inner lips is designed to fit within the outer lips. When it does not, women may experience discomfort from friction and the occasional pinch of clothing. By tucking the labia minora up within the labia majora, we can improve both aesthetic and physical comfort.

A Personal Reason for Every Patient

There are numerous reasons given by women interested in labiaplasty. Common complaints that we hear include:

  • “I can feel the bulk of my lady parts.”
  • “I don’t like the appearance of my vagina.”
  • “The size, color, or shape of my labia make me feel embarrassed with my partner.”
  • “You can see labia through my bathing suit.”
  • “I worry that I am not getting clean enough down there due to so much skin.”
  • “Riding a bike is uncomfortable.”
  • “Wearing jeans is uncomfortable.”
  • “Sometimes I feel like something tears during sex.”

We could go on, but you probably get the idea. In fact, you may have your reason to add to this list.

Is labiaplasty for Every Woman?

Women who seek labiaplasty range in age from their teens and twenties to their sixties and seventies. Ultimately, the appropriateness of this procedure doesn’t come down to age; it comes down to need. A well-informed patient in good general health is a good candidate for labiaplasty. One matter that we do discuss during the consultation is the desire for future pregnancy. The results of labiaplasty are permanent but may be altered somewhat by pregnancy and vaginal childbirth.
