What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is the coolest, most innovative, non-surgical way to lose those annoying bumps and bulges of stubborn fat. This revolutionary technology targets and cools unwanted fat cells in the selected area to induce a noticeable, natural-looking reduction in fat bulges.*
Unlike most other methods of fat reduction, CoolSculpting involves no needles, surgery, or downtime. Patients often spend procedure time reading, working on their laptops and since we have a TV in the room, patients usually watch movies on Netflix.

Candidates for CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting is specially designed for those who have unwanted fat in targeted areas. CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss solution for people who are obese. Good candidates for the CoolSculpting procedure have noticeable bulges in certain areas they’d like to get rid of. Many people want a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.
The most common areas treated include the abdomen, hips (muffin tops), flanks, back (bra rolls), inner thighs, outer thighs (saddle bags), arms, chin and male breasts. Because Dr. Dahan has two CoolSculpting systems and applicators, it is possible, in our office, to have multiple areas treated at once.
Call us today at (775) 826-4477 to set up your free consultation. We’ll see if you’re a good candidate for CoolSculpting and work with you to develop a treatment plan.
To initiate the treatment we will position the device on your body. The device will then draw the bulge up between two cooling panels. The sensation is a firm pull and pressure – enough of a pull to ensure the selected tissue will be cooled most efficiently. An hour or so later, depending on your needs, you’re done.
As the cooling begins during the first few minutes, you may typically feel intense cold. This soon dissipates. With some applicators, you’ll feel some pulling as suction is applied. The area generally goes numb within 4 to 8 minutes during treatment. Many people read, watch videos, work on their laptop, or even take a nap during their CoolSculpting treatment.
After the treatment, you may feel some tingling as the area is massaged for 2 or 3 minutes. Patients are usually able to return to normal activities following their appointment.
Benefits Of CoolSculpting Treatment
CoolSculpting is a noninvasive treatment whereas liposuction is not which means the benefits of CoolSculpting are much different. These benefits include the following:
- No downtime
- No need for anesthesia
Although results are not achieved as rapidly as liposuction, the pain, risks and recovery time can be avoided.
How Many CoolSculpting Treatments Will I Need?
We will help you create an individualized treatment plan tailored to your specific goals. The length of your CoolSculpting treatment will vary depending on the number of areas being treated during one visit. While each CoolSculpting treatment generally lasts about 1 hour, some patients have more than one treatment during the same office visit.
Results for each individual may vary but typically you can start noticing changes three weeks after treatment.* Your body is still flushing fat cells and will continue doing so for up to four to six months after treatment. As long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle, long-term results should remain stable. Once the treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), they die and are naturally processed and eliminated from the body. Once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.
Will I Gain Weight After CoolSculpting?
Many people, after seeing the results from their CoolSculpting procedure, feel even more motivated to stay close to their ideal weight.* However, if you do gain weight, you may gain it evenly all over your body, not just in the treated areas. In many cases, weight gain will be limited in the treated areas.
The difference between losing weight and losing fat: When you lose weight, you reduce the SIZE of your fat cells. Fat cells get smaller but the number of fat cells stays the same. When weight is gained, fat cells get bigger.
When you lose fat with CoolSculpting, you reduce the NUMBER of fat cells. The CoolSculpting fat-freezing procedure reduces the number of fat cells in treated areas by about 22% to 25%.* These fat cells are naturally processed and eliminated, so they won’t migrate to another area of your body. And there’s no change to fat cells in untreated areas.
CoolSculpting Side Effects
Immediately after treatment, there may be redness and firmness; transient blanching and/or mild bruising around the edges of the treatment area; tingling and stinging. Typically, these side effects are temporary and resolve completely. Many patients do experience redness in the treated areas for up to a few hours after the applicator is removed. In rare cases, this redness may persist up to 2 weeks, but it will completely resolve itself.
At 1 to 2 weeks after treatment, there may be redness, bruising, and swelling; tenderness, cramping, and aching; itching, skin sensitivity, tingling, and numbness. In some cases, numbness may persist for several weeks after a treatment. Talk to your doctor if these side effects persist past 2 weeks or worsen over time.
Rare side effects include:
- Paradoxical hyperplasia: Visibly enlarged tissue volume within the treatment area, which may develop 2 to 5 months after treatment. Surgical intervention may be required.
- Late-onset pain with a typical onset several days after a treatment and resolution within several weeks.
- Freeze burn: First- and second-degree freeze burn may occur during treatment. It typically resolves without sequelae with proper care.
- Vasovagal symptoms: Dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, flushing, sweating, or fainting during or immediately after the treatment.
- Subcutaneous induration: Generalized hardness and/or discrete nodules within the treatment area, which may develop after the treatment and may present with pain and/or discomfort.
- Hyperpigmentation: Hyperpigmentation may occur after treatment. Typically, it resolves spontaneously.
- Hernia: Treatment may cause new hernia formation or exacerbate pre existing hernia, which may require surgical repair.
