We typically hear how pregnancy and breastfeeding alter a woman’s body, specifically her breasts. While these are life events that directly affect breast tissue, there are others that can’t be overlooked. A woman’s breast tissue is likely to change regardless of mothering. Weight increase can enlarge the breasts. Weight loss can cause the breasts to deflate. Aging will almost always result in breast changes that include a drop in volume from the top and middle of the breasts to the bottom. Judging by these physical factors, one could presume that most women eventually become good candidates for breast lift surgery.
Is a Breast Lift Right for You?
The best way to determine if a breast lift would accomplish a desirable outcome is to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon. We would be happy to schedule a consultation for you in our Reno office. Until your visit, you may begin to see the potential benefits of a breast lift by observing a few characteristics about your own breasts.
- Which way do your nipples point? As breasts begin to sag, the tissue at the lower pole can stretch. The laxity in this skin can tug the nipples, causing them to point downward rather than forward. A breast lift can resolve this issue.
- Where do your nipples sit? Sagging exaggerates the crease beneath the breasts and, over time, the nipples may hang below this crease. By lifting breast tissue, a breast lift decreases the severity of the crease and repositions the nipples above it.
- Are your breasts oddly shaped? Breast lift surgery is not intended to alter the size of the breasts much, but it can make breasts appear perkier and rounder. Alone, this can correct oddities such as tuberous breasts. To further improve symmetry, the lift technique may be combined with breast augmentation.
